International Conference
Geopolitical time trend? Ukraine and the future of the EU
November 12, 2025 | Konrad Adenauer Foundation Academy, Berlin
About the event
Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine has become a true geopolitical turning point. In a world of growing global uncertainty, the enlargement of the European Union has turned into a strategic necessity—both for strengthening the EU’s position as a geopolitical actor and for ensuring stability in the region.
However, effective enlargement requires internal reforms within the EU itself to preserve its capacity to act.
This very issue—how to shape a strategically oriented EU enlargement policy—will be the central focus of our conference.
Key topics for discussion
- Ukraine and EU accession: At what stage are we now and what are the next steps?
- What are the current challenges of the EU enlargement policy?
- How is the implementation of reforms progressing in the candidate countries — Ukraine and Moldova?
- In the context of global upheavals — what priority do Germany and the EU assign to Ukraine's accession?
